Click or tab to the icon well to make it the focus of the , and commands in the menu.
Pasting icons
The icon well accepts the following data types for operations:
- A picture copied to the Clipboard.
- An icon copied from another Info window.
- An icon copied from a Finder Get Info window.
- A file or folder. To place a reference to a file or folder on the Clipboard, select the desired file or folder in the Finder or in a File Buddy List window and use the command.
- If the item is a QuickTime-compatible graphics file, an icon will be created using the image in the file.
- If the item is an icon (.icns) file, the icon data in the file will be used.
- If the item is a folder or any other kind of file, the item’s Finder icon will be used.
Once the desired icon data is on the Clipboard, click or tab to the icon well to make it the target of the command and paste the icon.
Removing custom icons
You can use the and commands to remove a custom icon. You can also use the delete/backspace key to remove a custom icon.
Drag & drop
Drag a file or folder to the icon well to create a custom icon for the existing item. Dragging a file or folder to the icon well has the same effect as pasting it into the image well as described above.
Opening a Viewer
Double-click the icon of a file to open a Viewer. Double-click the icon of a folder to open a List window containing the contents of the folder.
